To honour JoAnne’s contribution to the profession, IBLCE has established JoAnne W. Scott Scholarship to fund an exam applicant from a mother-support group who, due to financial hardship would otherwise find it difficult to sit the exam. The scholarship may cover exam fees, travel to and from the nearest exam site if the candidate lives more than two hours from the nearest exam site, and a lactation text book for use as a permanent resource.

Donations are being sought from interested organizations and individuals to maintain an endowment fund for the scholarship under the auspices of Monetary Investment for Lactation Consultant Certification (MILCC).

This scholarship was made possible by a generous initial donation by Ros Escott to establish the fund. Ros explains her reasons for donating:

JoAnne was my supervisor, mentor and friend for 15 of the 20 years she was Executive Director of IBLCE. In one’s life, there are occasionally colleagues who bring out the best in us, and with whom we can create and achieve things neither of us could have done without the other. JoAnne and I shared such a relationship for many years and I will always treasure it. We also shared the mother-to-mother support background that she so keenly wanted to remain as an important influence in the lactation consultant field. I know she is really pleased to see her two passions – IBLCE and mother-to-mother breastfeeding support - combined into this scholarship which bears her name. I hope there will be many others, like myself, who will want to make a donation in JoAnne’s name.  - Ros Escott, Australia
